Who's feeling hot this Summer
Henry's Top Tips to stay COOL this Summer
1. Always leave lots of cool water around for us .
I love a sprinler or paddling pool to soak my paws in on a hot day.
sometimes my toes get super toasted on the pavement & I love to cool them down in my paddling pool.
Theres nothing like frozen ice cubes to crunch on, if i'm lucky Mum adds some chicken stock to the water & freezes it for an extra special treat.
Signs Of Dehydration
I can't sweat. I cool off by panting, if I'm overheating I will drool excessively. I migh lazier & become lethargic. If you lift my skin, it will take longer than usual for the skin to fall back into place.
2. I think we all know it but just because it is so important....Don't leave me in the car.
A car retains more heat than an open area, even if it is in the shade. Plus, I might get overexcited in the car due to passersby or panic from claustrophobia, making dehydration more likely. On longer trips, make sure you have water for me and keep the AC running.
3. Dogs cool from the bottom up.
Keep a spray bottle filled with water on hand. Make sure to spray my paws and stomach, with water. A wet towel does more good if it's underneath me than when laid on the top of my coat.
4.Let Me dig!
I know it seems a pain but I may resort to finding my own way to avoid the heat. In nature we dig in our dens not out of frustration but to find food, hide, give birth--or keep cool! If it's possible, locate a shady area where it's okay for me to dig.
5.COOL BANDANAS
If you happen to have a 4 PAWS STYLE BANDANA you can wet & freeze it or just put it in the fridge for a while. I love to wear it & it keeps my cool!.
I hope all you PUPS are keeping cool this Summer. You don't want to end up a HOT DOG!!!
